Central Ward

Meadowbank, West Ryde, Ryde, Denistone East, Macquarie Park* and North Ryde

Leading the Liberal team in Central Ward are your candidates Clr Sarkis Yedelian and Shweta Deshpande.

Experienced, hard working, and deeply committed to our community, Sarkis and Shweta will fight for the essential services and infrastructure that Central Ward needs, get Ryde moving again post-pandemic, and ensure we put an end to Labor’s rising debt and overdevelopment.

Clr Sarkis Yedelian OAM is a former Deputy Mayor of the City of Ryde who has served on Council since 2004. He has chaired the Ryde Planning and Environment Committee and the Ryde Economic and Development Advisory Committee. He is currently the chair of the City of Ryde Multicultural Advisary Committee.

Sarkis was the first elected Councillor of Armenian-Australian heritage and has played a key leadership role in Ryde’s Multicultural Advisory Group, which advises Council on all multicultural issues. Sarkis’ fluency in five languages (Armenian, Arabic, French, English and Turkish) enables him to help members of our community who often go unheard by local government.

Sarkis has a background in journalism and electrical engineering, having run a successful consulting business in the IT, camera and telecommunications industry for over 30 years.

Joining Sarkis is Shweta Deshpande, a local mum and pharmaceutical professional with an MBA in finance and marketing. Like many in Ryde, she is a proud immigrant who chose to call Ryde home; this is where she has built her career, set up her home and is raising her primary-aged children.

If elected, Shweta will be a truly representative voice on Ryde Council that will work towards improving accessibility for childcare, working constructively with the NSW Government to create more green space, and ending Labor’s over-development agenda. As a pharmaceutical professional with a finance background, Shweta is well-equipped to reopen Ryde’s local economy safely post-COVID.

Both Sarkis and Shweta know that to truly champion and celebrate our diverse community, we need representation in our governing bodies. Ryde Council is the first place where decisions are made that impact our day-to-day lives. Bringing their experience as professionals with deep multicultural ties, both Sarkis and Shweta are ready to secure Ryde’s future.

On Saturday, 4 December 2021 vote 1 for your Liberal team in Central Ward.
